The Hundred Opener sees the Invincibles triumph as Phoenix falters

The Oval Invincibles, who defeated the Birmingham Phoenix by eight wickets in the opening game of The Hundred men's competition, had a dominant performance at the Kia Oval.

Due to some bad shot selection, the Phoenix's batting lineup collapsed quickly, and after just 17 balls, they were down 10–4. These mistakes were taken advantage of by Saqib Mahmood and Mohammad Amir, who both took two wickets to leave the Phoenix in a vulnerable position.

The Phoenix managed to settle the innings with only 89 runs, leaving 19 balls unplayed, despite attempts by Rishi Patel (25), Benny Howell (24), and Jacob Bethell (22). Adam Zampa was the Invincibles' most outstanding bowler, destroying the middle order of the Phoenix with scores of 3-11.

In response, Tawanda Muyeye scored a quick 24 to give the Invincibles a great start. Even though Tim Southee finished with statistics of 2-20 and removed Will Jacks and Muyeye from the game, it wasn't enough to change the tide for the Phoenix.

Sam Billings (31*) as captain and Dawid Malan (24*) as opener seized charge and led the Invincibles to victory with ease, completing the match at 93-2 with enough of balls remaining. The Invincibles' strong start to their championship defence was assured by their calm and confident partnership, demonstrating their supremacy at this early point of the competition.
