ICJ Ruling May Lead to Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant, Reports Israeli Media

Concerns have been raised by Israeli authorities that the International Criminal Court (ICC) may be able to issue international arrest warrants for Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a result of the advisory opinion that the ICJ recently published.

According to a story published in Haaretz on Sunday, representatives of the Israeli ministries of foreign affairs and justice are concerned that the advisory opinion of the ICJ may “give more legitimacy” to the ICC's eventual decision to issue the arrest warrants that Prosecutor Karim Khan has requested. The legal ramifications of Israel's policies and actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, are discussed in the ICJ's ruling, which was released on Friday.

Due to serious breaches of international law, such as the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the ban on ethnic discrimination and apartheid, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared that "the State of Israel's continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is unlawful."

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is making its first effort to prosecute a head of a state backed by the West while they are still in power with Khan's sudden request to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders for suspected war crimes in Gaza. The officials in the occupation state are keeping a careful eye on the possible political implications of the ICJ's ruling.
